Volunteering Resources

Volunteering is at the heart of the heritage sector of the Highlands and Islands, yet many organisations are not fully aware of the benefits their volunteers bring to them.

The Highland Museum of Childhood at Strathpeffer has long realised the importance of volunteering to achieving its aims. Jennifer Maxwell has offered us these downloadable resources to help inform your own volunteer policy.

  • The first is a presentation recently delivered to the Highlands and Islands Museums Forum development day.
  • The second is a copy of the voluneteering policy in operation at The HMOC.
  • The third is the volunteers charter which is prominently displayed inside the Museum.

Thanks to Jennifer for these documents. She has also very kindly offered to speak to anyone who wishes to discuss any matters arising from this information, and how it might apply to their own situation.

The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO), whilst not specifically geared towards the heritage sector, has some useful resources, not least in the the e-learning section.
