Managing digitisation projects

This course will focus on the purpose and issues that surround the digitisation of archives and to a lesser extent objects.  Full of advice on best practice and good examples of work in this field, participants will be encouraged to think about the purposes, advantages and disadvantages of such projects and how they should go about managing their own projects.  The course will consist of a mixture of presentations and practical exercises with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and share experiences. 

  

By the end of the course, participants will have an understanding of:

 

  • the purpose, advantages and disadvantages of digitisation
  • issues relating to managing digitisation projects such as time, staffing, preservation issues, funding sources and selecting items for digitisation
  • recognised standards for digitisation and the description/cataloguing of digitised images
  • the technical issues relating to capturing, storing and managing digital files
  • the basic issues relating to copyright as it relates to digital images
  • further sources of help and advice
