Course outline:
This course provides an introduction to the basic principles of museum documentation with particular reference to MLA’s Museum Accreditation Scheme. Consideration is given to the benefits of good documentation practice, and participants will examine the content of an effective system. Topics covered include the Museum Accreditation Scheme, the application of SPECTRUM, the relevance of museum policy making, and assessment of participants own systems against the Accreditation requirements for documentation.
Objectives:
By the end of the course participants will have:
· Considered the importance of good documentation practice;
· Examined and discussed the Museum Accreditation Scheme documentation requirements;
· Understood the principals and use of SPECTRUM;
· Examined a basic museum documentation system;
· Assessed their own documentation system against the Accreditation guidelines;
· Outlined a plan to enable their museum to meet the documentation requirements of the Accreditation Scheme.
