Description: Two films about Shetland in the 1950s introduced by Shetland Archivist Brian Smith.

'Simmer Dim' gives a great snapshot of everyday life throughout the islands and was shot for the Methodist Church.

'Away from it All' was a BBC programme about Scalloway in the 1950s by champion athlete, Christopher Chataway. A large number of local people feature in the films: come along and see who you recognise.

Description: Set on the waterfront within a restored 19th century dock the Shetland Museum and Archives was opened in June 2007. With over 3000 artefacts encompasing all aspects of Shetland's heritage and culture and an archive facility offering access to a wealth of local history material, it introduces Shetland's story and provides a gateway to other local sites of interest. As well as housing the Museum and Archive collections there is a cafe restaurant, auditorium, learning and research rooms, temporary exhibition space and shop. Other facilities include historic boat building sheds and a three storey boat hall with suspended boats.
