Nelsons Tower

Description

The Nelson Tower is a three-story octagonal tower, built as a memorial to Lord Nelson, at the top of Cluny Hill overlooking the town of Forres. Its rooftop viewing platform affords an excellent overview of the town, surrounding area and Findhorn Bay. Admission is free, and the tower is open, May to September, Tuesday to Sunday from 2 to 4 PM. Closed on public holidays.

Collection information

The Nelson Tower is part of the Moray Council Museums Service, which holds extensive collections of social history items from in and around Moray including costume, domestic and personal items of everyday use; herbarium collections of local plants from the nineteenth century; fossils collected by Hugh Falconer in India and elsewhere; over 700 watercolour paintings by maritime artist Peter Anson; collections of local archaeology; natural history and geology. The tower displays a small collection of material relating specifically to the Battle of Trafalgar and Nelson, and is also houses the memorial to the South African War.
