Description

The museum is situated in Abernethy, eight miles south of Perth on the A913. Abernethy was once the pictish capital of Scotland and the museum sits beside one of only two round towers in the country. It is open from 13.00-17.00, Thursday - Sunday, May-Oct and is staffed and run by volunteers. The aim of the museum is to depict life within the parish from pictish times to the present day.

Collection information

The many displays offer information, illustrated entirely by local artefacts, and include the following themes: Pictish stones and place names, Carpow Roman camp and excavation, Tay salmon fishing, agriculture and soft fruit industry, local textile industry, trades, shops and businesses, church and school, transport, Abernethy 1901 as revealed by the census, World War II, new residential developments plus our new display for 2007 Abernethy's recently discovered 3000 year old log boat. Permanently on display is the millenium quilt produced by the people of the parish for the opening of the museum in 2000. (N.B. the Tay salmon fishing and agriculture and soft fruit displays are located in the adjoining Monastic gardens)
