Tourism will continue to be at the centre of the Scottish economy as we move further into the 21st Century. VisitScotland and its partners recognise that sustainability is central to achieving this. VisitScotland has a hugely important role to play in encouraging businesses to become more sustainable and is committed to ensuring the industry continues to innovate, think and act in relation to sustainability. Part of VisitScotland's strategy for sustainable tourism growth is a European Regional Development Funded project, part of which is to deliver a series of free events that promote business growth through the encouragement of sustainable business practices. These innovative and interactive events to be held throughout Scotland are aimed at all SME tourism businesses; from small rural Bed and Breakfasts to white water rafting companies and five star leisure attractions. These events will develop a greater understanding and awareness of sustainable tourism and its benefits. Sustainability within our tourism businesses is vital to ensure that Scotland's key tourism assets; our natural heritage and our communities continue to survive and thrive, therefore providing a fulfilling visitor experience. The events will take the format of seminars and workshops where attendees can interact with experts, through sustainability surgeries, consultancy support from key partners with easy practical advice on topics including; waste reduction, water and energy use, community engagement and procurement. |
