| 'Their Past Your Future' - Grants up to £15,000 available | |
| 21 November 2008 Their Past Your Future Scotland Phase 2 - Expanding Engagement: MGS full-member museums and galleries encouraged to apply for up to £15,000. 2005 commemorated 60 years since the end of the Second World War. Throughout the UK, innovative events, exhibitions and educational projects under the title of 'Their Past Your Future' (TPYF), helped further a greater understanding of the effect of war by bringing together young people, veterans and wider communities. The initiative proved to be successful and now the Big Lottery Fund has made more money available to fund similar projects. This time, TPYF Scotland will focus on the Second World War and conflicts since, enabling generations within communities to discover personal stories which have affected or involved their local area. In July 2008, 10 projects were awarded funding to carry out TPYF Scotland projects. Funding is now available for another 4 projects. Grants of up to £15,000 will be awarded to four Museums Galleries Scotland full-member museums or galleries as lead local partners. This funding will be awarded to develop oral history projects involving young people and veterans. The outputs from these oral history projects will be a series of 'mini-exhibitions' - oral histories and 'illustrative' or contextual items from local and national collections - capturing primary data from around Scotland. The local partners will then produce an exhibition, event, publication or other project inspired by the findings of the oral histories, so involving and engaging with a wider audience in the local community. Online exhibitions and other outputs generated will be included in a newly-developed e-learning resource, made visible via the new Scottish Schools Digital Network, Glow, presenting a global legacy for Their Past Your Future Scotland. A large-scale final product or event will happen in 2010, marking the 65th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. This is an opportunity to ensure that the memories and first-hand knowledge of war is never forgotten and will lead to a greater understanding for all generations of the impact of conflict in the local area.
