| Their Past Your Future Scotland Phase 2 - Expanding Engagement | |
| 26 February 2008 Cultural and community organisations throughout Scotland are being encouraged to work with their local museum or gallery, collecting and investigating oral histories from veterans of World War II and conflicts since, enabling generations within communities to discover personal stories which have affected or involved their local area. This is a fantastic opportunity for people to gain first-hand knowledge and a greater understanding of the impact of war on Scotland. Grants of up to £15,000 will be awarded to at least 10 Scottish Museums Council full-member museums or galleries to facilitate this work. An essential element of activity will be for museums and galleries to engage with partner organisations. Museums and galleries will collect personal stories from veterans (military and civilian) and illustrate these with photographs, films and associated items from local and national collections. It is anticipated that a rich online resource of oral histories and illustrative documents will be created from these materials. To identify your nearest museum or gallery, and encourage them to get involved, go to www.scottishmuseums.org.uk and click on 'Browse by Area' under the Scottish map. Their Past Your Future is a UK-wide Big Lottery funded initiative led in Scotland by the Scottish Museums Council.
